Roy's Journey

After a courageous battle with Cancer, in the summer of 2014, Roy Clements lost the love of his life – his beautiful wife Doreen.  Roy spent several years supporting Doreen through her many health challenges.  In 2012, the news that Doreen had lung cancer was devastating to Roy and to all Doreen’s family and friends. As Doreen’s disease progressed it became increasingly obvious that, in spite of her courage, a cure was not possible.  Roy and his daughters devoted all their time and efforts to making Doreen’s last months memorable as they knew this was what Doreen wanted for her family.

In the final weeks of Doreen’s life Roy realized that he needed help with this final battle and reached out to the Langley Hospice Society. He soon realized that in doing so he had made the right decision.  The caring and professional staff at the hospice helped to ease Doreen’s physical pain and cared for her physical needs while supporting the mental anguish of the family.  Doreen’s passing was peaceful, loving and dignified, embodying all the ideas that she herself embraced.  This was one journey that Doreen did not have to walk alone and very importantly, neither did her family.

The care and counselling that the LHS provides continues to help the Clements family through the grieving process.  For Roy, a staunch Liverpool F.C. supporter, the anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” now has even greater meaning.  Finding himself with a huge void in his life Roy has decided to devote his time to build something positive as a legacy to Doreen.  What better way to do this than to raise funds for the LHS so that others will not walk alone.  What began as a spark in Roy’s imagination has now blown into an expanding fund raising vision.  Over the next two years, more if necessary, Roy hopes to help the LHS expand their facility to meet the growing needs of the community it serves.
